Joel Ross, the greatest vibraphonist/composer of our time, releases his third new album on the prestigious Blue Note label! The third Blue Note release by Joel Ross, one of the greatest vibraphonists/composers of our time! Recorded with an eight-piece ensemble, Ross is constantly exploring new forms of improvisation and composition. The result is a glimpse of a new side of Ross, featuring up-and-coming young artists. Blue Note labelmate Immanuel Wilkins on alto saxophone, Maria Grand on tenor saxophone, Marquis Hill on trumpet, Kalia Vandeveer on trombone, Sean Mason on piano, Rick Rossart on bass, Craig Weinrib on drums, and special guest Gabriel Gallo on flute. Of the participating artists, Ross said, "This band is more than instruments. Everyone here means something to me. They are all my friends, and they have all committed to this vision. "Each title of the seven-movement suite represents an emotional decision or experience for Ross.In the recording studio, the band was able to concentrate on interpreting the songs and creating a production that respected the music as it is played by the band today. Ross said of the album, "I told them, 'This is the way I want this music to be, and this is the way I want you to approach it. I told them, 'This is how I want the music to be, and I want all of our playing to be inspired by the melody. Other than that, I didn't have a specific idea.
