The Flag of Drenthe is one of the twelve official flags used in the Netherlands. Adopted on January 18th, 1961, it consists of three horizontal stripes of equal size in the colors red (top and bottom) and white (middle). The flag reflects the historical coat of arms of the Province of Drenthe, which was granted by Emperor Maximilian I of Habsburg in 1498. The flag serves as a symbol of regional pride within Drenthe, much like the national flag represents the Netherlands as a whole. It is often flown during special events and celebrations within the province.
